Christmas: French Want Boring Presents
Clothes and a good meal — that'll do nicely this Christmas in France
Noël isn't what it used to be:
A recent survey reveals that the French aren't interested in getting original presents anymore. They would rather have cash, clothes, shoes and gift vouchers.
Instead of spending money on cadeaux, they plan to have a good Christmas meal. The main reason for the decline in money spent on presents is the increased price of food.
This year, an average French family will have a Christmas budget of 556 euros — 313 for presents and 162 for food.
Within Europe, France follows the same trend as Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. In countries where the economy fares better, more money is spent — with the Irish on top, planning to spend a staggering 1,430 euros per household this Christmas.
